The City of Delta forms the southern part of Metro Vancouver and is composed of 3 communities: North Delta, Ladner, Tsawwassen.  Ladner was established as village in 1868 when a couple of pioneer brothers with the name decided to start farming and fishing, growing the community. However, Ladner became strictly an administrative core in 1879 when the land was officially incorporated as a municipality called the Corporation of Delta.

The history of Tsawwassen centres around the Tsawwassen First Nations people who have inhabited the lands for thousands of years, making these traditional lands. While they still inhabit the northwest, part of Tsawwassen is now a residential community connecting us to Point Roberts, Washington via 56th Street and Vancouver Island vis Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.

At first, Delta was an isolated community until the completion of distinctive tunnels, highways, bridges and ferry terminals connecting the city to the rest of the Lower Mainland. Through 1960 to 1986 while these transportation routes were being constructed, Delta experienced an enormous population growth. Today, Delta is a massive transportation hub for the Lower Mainland.

The population of North Delta sits at 102,238 residents as of 2016 with a 2.4% increase since 2011 according to Delta’s Census Data. The population of Ladner sits at 22,193 residents as of 2016 with a 0.7% increase since 2011 according to Ladner’s Census Data. The population of Tsawwassen sits at 21,588 residents as of 2016 with a 0.7% increase since 2011 according to  Tsawwassen’s Census Data.
