The YMCA of Greater Vancouver has partnered with Endall Elliot Associates to redevelop the antiquated Langara Family YMCA located on Alberta Street and West 49th Avenue. According to the partnership, the building will be redesigned and renovated into a new facility for the community with two additional residential towers. A 20-storey highrise will be able to provide the area with a variety of housing options including stacked townhomes and condominiums. Around three-quarters of these housing options will have two bedrooms or more. Another tower will provide services that aren’t related to the housing market. In addition to the standard recreational amenities, this new YMCA facility will also provide a cafe, family centre, multi-purpose rooms, and daycare with 75 available spots. Members and visitors will be able to park in three different underground levels. However, the YMCA’s location is easy to access by public transportation or cycling routes.
Each of the new residential buildings is expected to have public outdoor and private indoor amenity areas for residents. The new facility will also have a six-lane pool, cycling studio, indoor track, family centre, cafe, heated leisure pool, gymnasium, hot tub, and much more. The YMCA will be able to expand by two floors if additions are needed in the future.
